Welcome to The Kreisel, as far as I know the first fan site dedicated to the breathtaking, spectacular and for many completely bonkers sport of bobsleigh. Most regular passers-by will associate the sport with the movie Cool Runnings and the exploits of the Jamaican team… I assure you that there’s a lot more to than that. (As well as the film being utter nonsense, of course).
I have been a fan of these somewhat strange fibreglass cocoons thundering down an ice chute for years now – in fact, way back to the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarejevo when I was immediately sucked in the madness of it all. It is also one the very few sports you can watch live and be mere centimetres away from the competition. I am a fan of many sports, but when you are at a bobsleigh track you can really get into the heart of the action. There’s nothing quite like it.
I had been planning on putting a website together for a while, but finally bit the bullet after the spending the last couple of years developing a long-term project dedicated to one of the sport’s biggest names – and arguably the greatest pilot the sport has ever seen. As I update the site, you’ll soon begin to get a flavour of the project, and hopefully how it will all end up as a book that would weigh down any coffee table.
I plan to kick things off this season with a review of every race weekend, and see how things go. So watch this space!
